Conductor & Concertmaster - Meet the SSO's Musical Leadership

Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen
Conductor

Jeffrey Schoyen’s interest in conducting began at Tanglewood, where he was awarded cello fellowships, playing under the guidance of conductors such as Bernstein, Ozawa and Masur. Since then he has attended conducting workshops in Madison, Chicago and Toronto. Having been the conductor of the Slidell Community Orchestra of Louisiana and the Kearney Area Symphony Orchestra, University of Nebraska at Kearney, he became the conductor of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra in 2005. He has collaborated with soloists such as Anton Miller, Allen Nisbet, Dan Kamin and Ernest Barretta. As a cellist, he has given concerts throughout the United States, Germany, Mexico and Spain. He has been a member of the Opera Orchestra of New York, Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and principal cellist of the Filarmonica del Bajio in Mexico. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from State University of New York: Stony Brook and currently is a member of the Department of Music at Salisbury University where he teaches cello and bass.

Sachiho (Sachi) Murasugi
Concertmaster

Sachiho Murasugi has performed extensively as a professional orchestral and chamber musician. She has been concertmaster of the Sorg Opera Orchestra in Ohio and Filarmonica del Bajio in Mexico, and a member of the West Virginia Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic and Springfield Symphony. As a chamber musician, she has performed throughout the United States, Mexico and Spain, in such venues as the Museo del Prado in Madrid. She holds music performance degrees from the Manhattan School of Music; Queens College, The City University of New York; and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at Ohio State University. Her teachers include Raphael Bronstein, Daniel Phillips, Kia-Hui Tan and Catharine Carroll. In addition to serving as concertmaster of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, she performs with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony and is a member of the Department of Music at Salisbury University where her classes include violin, viola and chamber music for strings.
