MSW Student Graduation Information
Hello prospective May or August
graduate from the MSW program!
Each year at this time students are
bombarded with dates and requests to RSVP for all the end of the
semester events that will take place in honor of you, the MSW
This page is to help you understand and
make sense of what will be happening so you can make informed
Here are some events that you will be
hearing about in the next few weeks:
Licensing Exam Preparation Workshop (Usually scheduled
during the Spring semester) – sponsored
by the social work department, presented by Dr. Root –
this workshop is for any graduating MSW student who is considering
taking the licensing exam. Find out about the application
process, overview of the exam, and tips for taking the exam. All
participants will be given access to a practice exam. Cost to
help defray rooms and materials: $25
Phi Alpha Honor
Society Induction (May and December) – sponsored by the social work
department Phi Alpha Honor Society – this event is part of
the Social Work Department Recognition Ceremony and is for members
of the Phi Alpha Honor Society to honor students who have
achieved the GPA and met the criteria for an invitation to the
honor society and are being inducted.
Work Department Recognition Ceremony
(December 13th, 7:00 p.m.)– sponsored by the Seidel School, includes all
social work graduates – This event is for you and your guests. During
the ceremony your name, field placement and placement
information will be announced. You will
come forward to the stage to be recognized and “hooded” (see
attachment for explanation of this ritual). It is a smaller,
more personal ceremony than commencement and is well liked by
students. You will wear your cap and gown and bring your hood.
Participation is voluntary, but you won’t want to miss it!
– (December 14th,
10:30 am, Wicomico Youth and Civic Center) – sponsored by the
University, this ceremony includes all graduating bachelor’s and
master’s students from the Seidel School and the Perdue School.
You will walk to the stage and receive your (replica) diploma.
Limited tickets will be distributed for family and friends. You
will wear your cap and gown.
