Social Work Department Recognition
For graduating MSW and BASW students there is an additional
Social Work Department Recognition Ceremony that takes place the evening prior to the graduation
ceremony. This is a special event and one you should plan to

(December 13th, 7:00 p.m.)– sponsored by the Seidel School, includes all
social work graduates and Phi Alpha Honor Society inductees. During
the ceremony your name, field placement and placement
information will be announced. You will
come forward to the stage and either be pinned (BASW) or hooded
attachment for explanation of this ritual). It is a smaller,
more personal ceremony than commencement that offers great photo
opportunities with family, friends, faculty and classmates! You will wear your cap and gown and bring your hood.
Participation is voluntary, but you won’t want to miss it!

University Graduation Information:
Before you can be cleared for graduation, you need to
complete the application for
GullNet. Applications are
processed through your Gullnet account via the drop down box in the middle
of your student center. For those of you planning to graduate in
December, the deadline is May 15. The deadline for May
graduation is November 15th.
If you are within a few credits of graduating and want to
walk in the graduation ceremony early, you may apply to do so.
Commencement website has the application to walk early
as well as information on the graduation ceremony, cap and gown
ordering, times, guest ticketing and desired decorum.
You will need to be dressed in full academic regalia for
graduation. You may purchase your academic regalia through the
If you are an undergraduate graduating with honors, you will
receive your honors hood when you pick up your regalia.
Some clubs and organizations also wear cords with the regalia
to signify membership. Check with the leaders of your club or
organization to see if this applies to you. Members of Phi
Alpha receive gold cords during their induction ceremony that may
be worn at graduation.

University, this ceremony includes all graduating bachelor’s and
master’s students from the Seidel School and the Perdue School.
You will walk to the stage and receive your (replica) diploma
and have your photo taken.
