The BASW program prepares graduates for generalist practice through the use of both innovative and hands-on classroom study and practical field experience. Field experience, which is critical to education, is provided in social agencies throughout the area to provide seniors with the “hands-on” application of knowledge necessary to develop entry-level skills.

The Mission Statement of the BASW program:
Grounded in the liberal arts and the ethics and values of the social work profession, the mission of Salisbury University's BASW program is to inspire and educate competent and culturally responsive social work professionals to be prepared for beginning level generalist practice in local, regional, national and global areas.

Generalist Practice is defined as "the application of an eclectic knowledge base, professional values and ethics, and a wide range of skills to target systems of any size for change".  (Kirst-Ashman, 2015, p. 7)

The BASW goals assist in striving toward that mission:

Dual Degree Program with UMES

The department also participates in a unique cooperative dual-degree program with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Students can earn both a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from UMES and a Bachelor of Arts in social work from SU. The advisor for this program is Dr. Jennifer Jewell, Director of Undergraduate Programs (410-677-5050).
