SU Teachers of Promise Recognized at Annual Celebration
The Teachers of Promise is a Maryland State Department of Education program that recognizes outstanding interns from the state’s teacher education institutions. The interns are nominated by their field supervisors for outstanding performance in their classrooms, academic records are investigated, and the interns’ intentions to stay and work in Maryland upon graduation are sought by the committee. Seven interns are then selected. They are matched with current and former Maryland County Teachers of the Year for support in the run up to the first year of teaching. The interns met with their mentors at the Teachers of Promise Institute in Baltimore on April 15 and enjoyed a day of professional development, discussions and great food. The SU Teachers of Promise also were recognized at our annual Professional Development Schools Celebration on May 5 and were presenters during the awards portion of the program. Each of these interns is a credit to SU and the teaching profession.
