The
Students
As in most colleges and universities, it is the students that make the Theatre
Program at Salisbury strong. Salisbury's students bring
energy and creativity to all the program's endeavors.
Sophanes:
Sophanes
(which derives its name from a combination of the Greek playwrights
Sophocles and Aristophanes, is Salisbury's student theatre organization and
has been in existence for over sixty years. Each year, Sophanes
selects a director for the final mainstage production of the season which is
completely student produced (directed, designed, etc). Sophanes also
holds workshops, sponsors trips, and works to bring guest lecturers to
campus.

Student
Life:
Beyond
the formal organizations, students at Salisbury University have many
opportunities to involve themselves in all aspects of theatrical
production. Each year Salisbury produces at least two studio series
pieces for which students may apply. Although auditions are open to
all, most roles, crew heads and technical crew positions are filled by
Theatre majors and students of other majors.
USITT:
In
the Spring of 2005, several of our students made the trek to Toronto for the
National Conference of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology [USITT].
This University sponsored trip gave the students the opportunity to meet
theatre professionals, talk to potential employers and "play with the big
kids."
