Bobbi Biron Theater Program

Holloway Hall

The Program

Combining a traditional classroom setting with practical hands-on experience, the program allows for individual experimentation and growth in three main areas of study: performance, design/tech, and generalist.

The Mission Statement:

To provide focused, pre-professional training within the context of broad liberal arts study. Through a program of applied studio courses, laboratory experiences and full productions, students learn an immediately useful set of theatre skills to prepare them for entry-level professional theatre training programs or graduate schools. Concurrent study of textual analysis, literature, and history help them place the theatre within its larger historical and cultural context and to think critically, reason clearly, imagine creatively and communicate effectively about theatre and the world of which it is a part.

Goals of the Program:

  • To serve as a "pre-professional training ground" in which students are given sufficient foundation (both theoretical and experiential) in order to move with confidence into professional training and graduate programs in theatre.
  • To enrich this experiential training with a firm foundation in the classics, with an awareness of the history of the theatre and it's interdependence on philosophy, politics, religion, and other art forms.
