K-12 teachers and educational leaders who wish to advance
professional development and enhance their knowledge and expertise in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) but are seeking
neither a M.A. degree nor state certification may wish to earn a Post
Baccalaureate Certificate in TESOL. The fifteen hour/five
course curriculum includes fundamental technical skills as well as
theoretical and practical experiences for applying the best
instructional practices to facilitate teaching and improved ESOL student
achievement. In order to earn a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in TESOL

ENGL 539 Second Language Acquisition
ENGL 547 Current Approaches in ESOL Instruction
One of the following three credit hour courses
completes the fifteen hour Certificate requirements:

ENGL 532 Literacy and ESOL Reading, or
ENGL 534 Literacy and ESOL Writing
All courses included in the program must be completed
with grades of C or better, with no more than three credit hours of C or
C+, and students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
NOTE: While the courses taken for the Post Baccalaureate
Certificate cover areas required for K-12 certification in the State of
Maryland, this certificate by itself does not lead to teacher
certification nor does this lead toward an M.A. in English degree.
