The goal of the
Nantahala trip is to teach leadership from a creative perspective. Whether
whitewater rafting, belaying a partner, teaching someone something new, or
simply reflecting on your own goals for college, leadership will be an
important aspect you learn from this trip. Nantahala students have gone on
to join fraternities/sororities, be presidents of clubs, have leadership
roles with student government, compete in our D-III athletic program, and
take part in many different opportunities available at SU and beyond.
Below you will find a list of links to
different websites with student leadership
information. Remember, the time you spend in college is valuable not only
for the degree earned, but the experience from living and learning with
other students. A few years ago, SU alum Mike Scarborough, made a tremendous
donation to student leadership at SU. While a student, Mike Scaborough was a
member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and that leadership propelled
him into a very successful business man. The
Scarborough Student Leadership Center is named in his honor and
recognition of his gift to the SU community.
No
matter what type of leadership position you find yourself in, the skill of
leading a group will be very important post college. Don't feel necessary to
rush into big opportunities during your first year of college. Take the time
to get to know SU and become a member of a few organizations. During the
first week of each semester there is an activities fair with groups
representing the 130 different organizations at SU. You'll have plenty of
time to get to all of these groups and find the one that meets your needs.
And if you don't, you can follow in the footsteps of a few Nantahala
students...and start your own club!
