In the spirit of passing along helpful wisdom from one Nantahala group to another, here's what a few of our Nantahala alum have had to say about their experience:

The Nantahala trip was one of my favorite college experiences, I loved all the team building exercises because by the end we were all so close! Make sure you bring a couple of towels, cans of bug spray, and cameras because you'll wanna take all the pictures you can!

~Felecia Benzakan, Nantahala 05'

Nantahala was an amazing experience. You make friends who will most likely continue to stay your best friends throughout college. The adjustment period from high school to college was much easier for me, because the first week, even the first night of SU, I had people to be with. The trip was a great experience, especially white water rafting and the ropes course! Have fun and allow yourself to meet new people, who you may not have even pictured yourself being friends with! It's Great!

~Tara Heller, Nantahala 2005

Going to college is a new experience for everyone. As with anything else in life it is easier when you have others there that you know and can count on. My Nantahala experience gave me the opportunity to meet a group of awesome individuals coming into college, many of whom are now some of my closest friends on campus. The trip also gave me the opportunity to experience to many challenging and exciting adventures, plus it taught me a lot about myself and concept of others. I recommend this trip to anyone and passing it up is passing up a chance of a lifetime.

I had a great time in Nantahala, the group was great, our leaders were great, and the place was great. I've never laughed so hard for a whole week in my life. I'll take those memories with me wherever I go and I get to relive them all the time because the people on the trip are my friends now and one is even my roommate over a year later. My advice to anyone thinking about the trip is to walk in with open arms and embrace everyone and every challenge, just like you should walk into your freshman year.

~Tracy Taylor, Nantahala 2003

The biggest advantage about going on one of the summer trips is the confidence gained by knowing some other freshmen, who you share an experience with and can relate to. The thing that sets the Nantahala trip apart from the other summer experiences are the combination of the activities. It is not completely focused on just the white water rafting, but also the ropes course and team building games. There is enough time to accomplish the activities and challenge yourself, as well as get to know the other group members. A summer trip gives you a head start to meeting new friends. Even if you don't become best friends with anyone of the trip, it is always comforting to be able to pick out familiar faces when you are in an unfamiliar setting.

~Jamie Martin, Nantahala 2004

Bring a lot of waterproof clothing and rain gear, because Byron might try to make you sit outside in a monsoon for THREE HOURS and contemplate life. ;D
