Salisbury University provides wireless access to
students, faculty and staff to facilitate the spread of
and support for wireless networking technologies. Our
wireless network follows the 802.11
A/B/G/N standard,
allowing a maximum theoretical data transfer rate of
300Mbps on
N.
Setup
To get connected to our network, you will need a
wireless network card or adapter. The easiest way to get
wireless setup is to use one of the USB wireless
adapters that are at computer stores. If you have a USB
port, you just plug the adapter into that and your
computer will configure the device automatically and you
can pick what wireless network you want to be on (list
and details below):
- SU-Secure is the new
WPA2 Encrypted wireless network and the preferred
network for Students and mobile devices. Setup
instructions for this network are below:
*NOTE* If you are
missing the "Thawte Root CA" certificate referenced
in the guides above, you can download and install it
here (Right-click the file and "Save As",
unzip the file then run the certificate
on your local computer) -->
Thawte
Primary Root CA
- SU_Staff is the wireless network designated for
faculty/staff.
- SU_Laptop is designed for University Owned
Laptops to connect to.
- SU_Guest is for guests that want wireless access
on our network and have received a guest login from
one of the following participating locations:
- IT Helpdesk
- Conference Planning / Catering (logins are
only given out to guests that are attending a
conference or activity relating to these areas).
- Guerrieri University Center Information Desk
- Blackwell Library (logins are only given out
for library guests).
You could also purchase a wireless card (PCMCIA for a
laptop) which works just as well as the USB one, if not
better. They both run around the same price, although
the USB ones tend to be cheaper. However the PCMCIA
cards for laptops tend to have more range and provide a
better signal than the USB ones.
