| This page is designed to give you a general overview
of the login process and how to get information about
what security scans you have failed.
Logging In
1. Once you connect to either our Student
Residence Hall network or Wireless network, you will
need to open a web browser. Once you do so, try to
access an external webpage like
www.google.com and
you will be redirected to the login page as shown below:

2a. (Internet Explorer)
You will be prompted to install the Nevis ActiveX Agent,
as shown below. You must click the "click here"
section to install this agent as shown:

2b. (Mozilla Firefox)
Here is what it looks like on Mozilla Firefox using Java
instead of ActiveX:

3. If you are using Internet Explorer, you
will come up to this screen asking if you want to
"Install" or "Don't Install". You must select
install or you will be not allowed on the network:

4. Both web browsers operate the same from
this point on...you will see a box pop up giving you the
progress of the agent install:

5. After the agent install is complete, you
will see the login page; Go ahead and enter your
username/password, then click Login. If you are a
student/staff/faculty member, you can use the same login
you would use on a lab computer or to access your
groupwise email (they are the same login). If you
are a guest, you should have a login/password given to
you by a department:

6. The Nevis Security Agent will be loaded
by this time and assuming your username/password are
correct, you will be logged into the system as shown
below:

Security
Scans
1. The Security Agent will be scanning your
machine to make sure you are running acceptable security
software. If you pass the scans by having the
acceptable software on your machine, then you are good
to go. If not, you will get a popup "bubble" in
your taskbar saying you have failed a scan. Take a
good look at the image below as it describes what to do
after you get the "Scan Failed" bubble:

2. After you right-click the nevis icon and
select status, you will be able to see what you failed
in the section that says "Scan Status". In this
example, this computer failed the Anti-Spyware check
because there was no Anti-Spyware software installed as
shown below:

3. Once you have taken care of all the scan
failures you have, you need to right-click the nevis
icon again and select "Scan Now" to get scanned again to
see if you pass:

4. Assuming you have the proper software
installed and you pass the scan, you will be greeted
with the screen below and you will be allowed on the
network:
