Credit by Examination
Salisbury University (SU) will apply a maximum of 60 semester
hours of course work toward the completion of a Baccalaureate
degree for acceptable credit by examination scores.Please note that as curriculum changes,
evaluations of credit earned by examination may vary for future
semesters. Academic Departments reserve the right to
re-evaluate credits earned by examination and make necessary
changes to these credits.

Advanced
Placement Program (AP) (Fall 2008)
Students who have completed
Advanced Placement (AP) course work as part of their high school experience
and have taken the corresponding AP examination may be entitled to advanced
standing credit at Salisbury University (SU).
Students
receiving scores of three (3), four (4), or five (5) on the AP examination are
awarded credit for course work at SU as detailed in the following table.
The Admission's office must receive an official score report from the College
Board Advanced Placement Program to award credits. To request that

Salisbury
University awards advanced standing credit to students who have
received acceptable scores on College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
examinations provided more advanced or similar course work has not been
previously completed. By Appointment Only:
Please call the Registrar's Office to schedule CLEP exam(s).
Exams are not available during peak periods.
Fees:
Separate payment is made to
CLEP and to SU for their respective fees:
*The
CLEP Exam fee is $80.00. This fee can be paid by credit card,
check, or money order; checks and money orders should be made
payable to CLEP.
*The
Salisbury University CLEP administration fee is $20.00. It is
payable by check or money order made payable to Salisbury
University.
*There is an additional $10.00 fee for any English Essay Exam taken,
payable also to Salisbury University.
Students who score at or above the minimum scores established by the University
for CLEP examinations
are awarded credit for course work at SU as detailed in the following
table. A maximum of 24 hours of CLEP credit can be applied to a Baccalaureate degree.
CLEP credits cannot be used to satisfy course work requirements
within the Medical Technology, Nursing, and Respiratory Therapy programs unless
written approval is obtained from the department chair prior to testing.
The Registrar's office must receive an official score report from the College
Board College Level Examination Program to award credits.

ENGLISH CLEP EXAMS
English
elective credit is awarded to a student who passes any of
the literature CLEP exams with a score of 67 or higher. To
receive credit for a English
literature course, the student must also write an exam
essay which is scored by the English department.
To
receive credit for ENGL 103 a
student must pass the National
CLEP College Composition Modular
exam with a 67 or better and write an essay
exam which is scored by the English department.
***A $10 fee is required to take the essay portion of these
exams, payable by check made out to
Salisbury University. If the student passes the exam, the
credits will be posted to the transcript in the following
semester. A student may not receive credit in the same semester
in which the exam is taken. The essay
is available at specific times during the semester. Please contact the English
department for further information.

International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
Students who earn an IB
Certificate will be awarded 3 – 8 semester hours of credit for
each Higher Level IB exam completed with a score of 4 or above.
Students who earn an IB
Diploma will be awarded 3 – 8 semester hours of credit, up to 30
credits, for scores of 4 or above on both the higher level and
the standard level IB exams.
Students are awarded credit
for courses at SU as detailed in the following table. Official
IB examination results must be sent directly from IB to the SU
Admissions Office.
