2005 Budget Testimony
Good afternoon, Mr. Chairman and Members of the Subcommittee.
I’d like to begin by thanking you for your hard work,
commitment, and perseverance as you represent the people of Maryland and
recommit to public higher education in our State. The Governor’s recommended
budget increase for the University System of Maryland institutions would provide
funds that are sorely needed to address challenges in staffing, employment
benefits, delayed facilities maintenance, and affordability.
People are talking about Salisbury University and the affordable, quality
education it provides. In the May-June 2004 Consumers Digest, SU is named
a best value among the top 125 public universities nationally. Consumers
is only one among a number of national publications to recognize that SU is a
leader in educational excellence and value.
U.S. News & World Report’s 2005 “America’s Best Colleges”
lists SU as the seventh best university among its peers in the North.
SU is featured in the 2005 The Princeton Review’s Best 357
Colleges, placing us in the top 10% of colleges nationally.
Kaplan’s Unofficial, Unbiased Insider’s Guide to the 328 Most
Interesting Colleges highlights SU’s commitment to undergraduate research
and service learning programs.
