Members of the Campus Community,

You are invited to participate in a process that will lead to the development of the Universitys five year Strategic Plan. This is an exciting time at Salisbury University. SU continues to attract national attention and acclaim. Our numbers are growing and student quality continues to increase steadily, along with applications. Our campus facilities have undergone significant renovation and growth. Our strategic plan, which has been an able and useful road map for these last five years, is in its final year.

Significant changes such as those the University has been experiencing require careful planning. When we put our last plan in place, we gathered considerable input from the campus community and created a plan that has guided us in decision-making. Now it is time to create an updated Strategic Plan that will chart the Universitys course for the next five years (2014-2018).

Throughout the 2012-2013 academic year, conversations have occurred across campus on issues that we know will be important in the coming years: international education, graduate education, and enrollment planning. To augment those conversations, we want to hear from the campus community about what issues you think need to be addressed over the Universitys next five years.

We will hold a series of workshops across campus to encourage input from students, faculty, staff and all members of the campus community. The workshop will take only a small amount of your time, but will provide an important opportunity for each of you to express your opinion about what makes SU distinctive. This input will shape the foundation of our planning efforts. Workshop times and dates are listed to the right.

Please sign up for a workshop, and encourage your friends, roommates or coworkers to do the same by contacting Gina Boobar at You need no preparation or materials for the workshop. But I believe that if you participate, you will have fun and enjoy a thoughtful discussion.

In addition, we have established this Web site to keep the campus community informed about the planning process. The page will include a listing of members from the Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee, results of the community input workshops, links to related planning efforts mentioned above, pertinent data and a forum for you to submit questions or comments about the process. Whether you participate in one of the workshops or stay engaged through the Web site, I encourage each of you to take the time to make your voice heard.

Our plan is to move expeditiously with the goal of drafting the plan over the summer months and making the draft available for review by the campus community in the fall. If all goes well, the plan will be finalized by the end of 2013, and implementation will begin in 2014.

I appreciate your thoughtful participation and support. Your input is important as we continue to build our institutions reputation as A Maryland University of National Distinction.

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, Ph.D.
