Hargreaves Award Ceremony/
SU Day at the Legislature 2013
On Thursday, February 21, a delegation from Salisbury University traveled to Annapolis to salute Maryland Delegate John Bohanan Jr. SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach presented the St. Mary's County representative with the University's 12th annual John R. Hargreaves Distinguished Legislative Fellow Award. She called Bohanan one of the State's
"hardest-working legislators" and applauded him as "a true visionary."
Surrounded by colleagues and friends from the House and Senate and SU students including his son Mark, who is a junior majoring in finance and also plays football, Bohanan received a standing ovation from the filled room.
"The driver for me is our students," he said. "They are our next leaders, not just of the state, but of the nation." In the years ahead he hopes to see many of them in the legislature in Annapolis and serving in Washington, D.C.
Created by SU's Institute for Public Affairs and Civic
Engagement (PACE), the Hargreaves Award and Fellowship allows students to meet with state legislators to learn firsthand about the responsibilities and rewards of their work. Bohanan will visit campus later this spring.
