10/10/10—the date comes around once each century. So what better day to celebrate a “Decade of Distinction” by the Salisbury University community and mark Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach’s 10th anniversary as SU President? Speakers, including students, faculty, staff and community partners, joined the President for an afternoon of memories and fun. On display were memorabilia, photographs, letters and proclamations, including two declaring 10/10/10 as Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach Day in Salisbury and Wicomico County. The President also announced a $10,000 gift to establish the Dudley-Eshbach Study Abroad Scholarship, which will help support immersion experiences for SU students in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America.

During the decade, Salisbury State became SU (no more “Salisbury Steak” jokes said Henry Hanna III, former chairman of the SU Foundation, Inc.) and ground was broken on buildings that continue to reshape the Route 13 skyline. The President concluded the celebration with an eye toward the future and a humorous Top 10 list of things she learned. (“Yes, Mom, a Spanish major can indeed get a job,” she told her mother.) Citing the academic and physical growth he has seen at SU, University System of Maryland Chancellor William E. “Brit” Kirwan summed up the feelings of many: “We have more good years to come.”
