Jen Palancia Shipp, J.D., M.Ed. Biography
General Counsel
Jen Palancia Shipp was appointed General Counsel at Salisbury University on
February 1, 2012. She was previously associate university counsel at The
University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), where she served for seven
years.
A native of New Fairfield, CT, Palancia Shipp earned her Doctor of
Jurisprudence from Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, her
Master of Education in higher education administration from North Carolina State
University, and her Bachelor of Arts in English magna cum laude from the
University of Connecticut.
Palancia Shipp has spent her entire career in higher education, first as a
student affairs administrator, and more recently as adjunct faculty and in-house
legal counsel. Her passion for liberal arts higher education is evident in
her extensive teaching and volunteer initiatives. A Phi Beta Kappa member,
Palancia Shipp served on the executive committee for the UNCG PBK chapter for
five years. Among other volunteer positions within higher education
organizations, Palancia Shipp served on various committees with the National
Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), the NCAA Competitive
Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sport Committee, past Chair of the Education
Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, preceptor for law students at
Elon Law School, mediator, and guardian ad litem. She enjoyed student
interaction teaching The Law of Higher Education at UNCG and Education Law at
Campbell University School of Law.
Palancia Shipp was recognized by Omicron Delta Kappa for her leadership at
Campbell University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the
Campbell Law Observer, research scholar editing
Webster’s Real Property Law in North Carolina, teaching assistant for
property law and legal research and writing, and member of national appellate
advocacy teams, as well as law library assistant.
Palancia Shipp and her husband, James Shipp, live in Easton, MD, with their
three young children, Shannon, Ryan and Megan.
