Salisbury University Police Department Social Media Policy

or EMERGENCIES VIA TWITTER

The Salisbury University Police Department's Twitter account has been set up to inform the public of news, events, online services, and major incidents related to the Salisbury University Police Department and the safety of the public in general.

If you follow the Salisbury University Police Department, you can expect Tweets in reference to some or all of the following:

  • Operational updates about the policing of certain events.
  • News about how the University Police Department is policing Salisbury University.
  • News related to major criminal investigations.
  • Appeals for information or assistance from the public.
  • Crime prevention advice.
  • Community information in reference to special events.
  • Information about online services from the Salisbury University Police Department website and other police related sources.
  • Education of the public in reference to the nature of policing.

Contacting the Salisbury University Police Department

The Salisbury University Police Department does not continuously monitor  Twitter. If you wish to contact the University Police Department, please visit police headquarters at 110 Power St (located on East Campus)  or use one of the methods detailed in the "Contact Us" section of our website including, but not limited to, reporting emergencies at 410-543-6222 or call 9-1-1.

The Salisbury University Police Department welcomes feedback and ideas from all of our followers and although we are not able to reply individually to the messages and comments we receive via Twitter, we will attempt to read all Posts/@replies. Although we cannot guarantee that we will be able to read everything marked to our attention, we will try to ensure that any "Emerging Trends" or "Helpful Information" is passed along to the appropriate personnel for evaluation.

Do not use Twitter to report a criminal act

Twitter is not an appropriate crime reporting mechanism. If you are the "Victim of" or a "Witness to" a criminal act or if you wish to report an emergency, please contact 9-1-1 or the Salisbury University  Police Department at 410-543-6222. This will allow the Salisbury University Police Department to investigate all reports efficiently and confidentially.

*Please be aware that malicious communications using Twitter may constitute a criminal offense and will be investigated appropriately.
