Frequently Asked Questions (Back)

1.

I just throw the citations away.  Why should I follow the parking regulations?

Parking regulations are in effect to create a fair and safe parking environment.  Citations issued by Salisbury University Police are written under the Maryland Uniform Citation Code and carry the weight and importance of citations issued by any law enforcement agency in the state of Maryland.  Fines not paid within 15 days will incur a $10 late fee, fines not paid within 21 days will incur a $20 late fee and be placed on the violator's account at the Cashier's Office.
2.  As a part-time or evening commuter student, do I really need to purchase a parking hangtag?
Yes, everyone is required to purchase a permit if they park on campus.
3.

If I have a valid parking permit, can I park at a meter without paying?

No, meters are intended for visitors, although students may utilize parking meters as long as time is on the meter for the period of time the vehicle is parked.

4.

What should I do if I lose my parking permit?

If the permit is lost or stolen, it must be reported immediately to the University Police prior to being able to purchase a replacement. The replacement fee is the same amount as the original fee.
5.

If I receive a parking citation and have a valid parking permit, do I have to pay the fine?

Bring the citation and your permit to the Office of Parking Services.  Once we verified you have a valid permit, the citation will be voided.
6.

I was told that if you are handy with computer graphics, that you can make your own permit.  My friend told me that they "found" a permit and used it.

Any permit that has been reported as lost or stolen and is being fraudulently displayed in a vehicle other than the registered vehicle will result in a fine. A vehicle found displaying a counterfeit permit will also result in a fine.
7. Is it all right to park in front of a building as long as I put on my flasher for a short period?
No, not even for 1 minute.  If no one is in the vehicle, it is considered a safety violation and a prohibited parking citation may be issued.
