Recent Book Bag Thefts (December 11, 2002)

During the past three semesters, University Police received an average of ten reports of book bag theft per semester. This semester, that number more than doubled.

On December 4th, University Police received information that some of the stolen book bags could be found in Pocomoke Hall. Investigation revealed that a resident of Pocomoke Hall was in possession of five stolen book bags and/or property. Information was also received that another suspect could be located in Choptank Hall. Five additional stolen book bags and/or property were recovered from a second suspect. Both individuals will be charged criminally with stealing a total of ten book bags and their contents. The value of the stolen property in these incidents is $2,415.50. Of that total, $1,885 worth of property was recovered. Items that were stolen include calculators, cell phones, textbooks, notebooks, wallets, keys, running shoes, clothing, checkbooks, money, computer disks, and Gull cards.

The University Police would like to publicly thank the students who came forward with information that made the recovery of this property possible and the identity of the suspects known.
