There have now been three thefts of wallets/purses from offices on campus since October. The thief steals the cash and uses the credit cards immediately at off campus stores. A summary or the incidents is a follows:
- Wed., 10/9, between the hours of 2pm-3pm, a wallet was stolen from an office on the first floor of Holloway Hall.
- Mon., 11/4, at approximately 4pm, an office was left unattended for a few minutes. When the occupant returned , his wallet was missing from a brief case that was left on his desk.
- Thurs., 11/8, between 12:30pm-2pm, a purse was reported stolen from an office in Caruthers Hall. The purse had been left under a desk.
In a effort to prevent others on campus from being victimized, the following office security tips are offered:
- Do not leave your wallet/purse in an unlocked desk or cabinet, or out in the open.
- Lock your desk when you leave the office.
- Lock unoccupied rooms and offices even if you leave for only a minute.
It takes a thief only seconds to enter an open room and steal your property. Report suspicious persons or activity to the University Police, x3-6222 or 410-543-6222.
