Salisbury University’s new $19 million Sea Gull Stadium was packed for its first Homecoming and Family Weekend, with thousands of parents, siblings, alumni and other special friends visiting campus. Rain showers didn’t dampen festivities including a Pre-Game Alumni Barbecue and tailgating. Fans excitedly watched as the football team defeated The College of New Jersey, 41-6, and field hockey topped Mary Washington, 6-1. A family ice cream social, post-game jazz social, and many class reunions and affinity-group gatherings added to the day’s excitement.
Tours of the new Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons also were popular, along with a Taste of the Chesapeake dinner and jazz brunch. Others enjoyed a recital by music faculty and alumni. Events earlier in the week included a breakfast for alumni who work at SU, a luncheon for retired faculty and staff, and a dinner for four new Hall of Fame inductees, including Dr. Michael Vienna, a longtime SU athletics director. The Student Government Association and other student groups also led activities including a pep rally, battle of the bands, step show and more.
