Salisbury University welcomed thousands of parents, siblings, alumni and other special friends for 2015 Homecoming and Family Weekend festivities.
Greeted by crisp fall air and the continued construction of the new Sea Gull Stadium, fans excitedly watched as the football team defeated Rowan, 31-28, on Saturday. Halftime celebrations featured a national championship ring ceremony for two outdoor track titles earned by hurdler Luke Campbell. A Pre-Game Alumni Barbecue included informal gatherings of rugby, biology and education specialties alumni, as well as the Classes of ‘95 and ’00. A student parade and block party, a family ice cream social, and victories by the volleyball and men’s soccer teams added to the day’s excitement.
Throughout the weekend, other reunions included Spanish majors, multicultural students, the Acadia orientation program, the Geography Alumni Alliance and SU’s Lambda Society. Hard hat tours of the Guerrieri Academic Commons also proved to be a popular activity, along with a Taste of the Chesapeake Dinner and Jazz Brunch. Headquarters Live hosted a pre-concert party for alumni downtown, while others enjoyed cultural events, including the Bobbi Biron Theatre production of To Kill A Mockingbird.
Events earlier in the week included a breakfast for alumni who work at SU, a luncheon for retired faculty and staff, and a dinner for five new Hall of Fame inductees, as well as a golf tournament for alumni and families. The Student Government Association also did its part to rally the campus with a beach bash, and the annual battle of the bands and powderpuff football game.
