Homecoming 2009 will be remembered for soaring spirits and record participation in several events throughout the week. Popular activities included the golf tournament, faculty emeriti and retired staff luncheon, and SGA’s “This Is Why I Squawk” celebrations.
Four SU alumni and one former faculty member—Amy Cooke ’99, Michael Giuffrida ’99, Megan Hopper Block ’99, Kyle Jefferson ’96 and Hunter Smith, Athletic Training Program founder—were inducted into the Hall of Fame, while the football team defeated Union (NY) College, 19-16, in the annual Homecoming game. Other SU teams posting wins over the weekend on campus included men’s and women’s swimming, volleyball and men’s soccer. Women’s soccer clinched the top spot in the upcoming CAC tournament with its win over St. Mary’s College. Away from home, the field hockey team scored its ninth shut-out of the season. Alumni graduating in years ending in 4 and 9 celebrated milestone reunions.
Jason Curtin (’98), director of alumni relations and annual giving at SU, said: “Overall, it was a fantastic weekend. It was great to see the various decades of alumni represented at all of the events. I appreciate the support of our alumni volunteers and the entire campus community to help produce a very successful Homecoming Weekend."
