Salisbury University recently showed its appreciation to more than 770 faculty, staff and student employees who attended Employee Appreciation Day festivities on Wednesday, June 12. Many donned their favorite SU gear for the events, which were planned by the Staff Senate.
SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach welcomed guests to a free “all-you-care-to-eat” indoor picnic lunch in the Commons, sponsored by her office. (A second picnic was held in the evening for night shift employees.) She recognized all of SU‘s 2012-13 Employees of the Month ― and announced Pascual “Paz” Flores, a plumbing specialist for the Physical Plant‘s Building Trades Department, as Employee of the Year. The honor earned him a $1,000 check.
Joined by Sammy the Sea Gull, Staff Senators drew names for over 60 individual door prize winners. Gifts were donated from offices and departments across campus, including Advancement, Student Affairs, and the four academic schools, among many others. In addition, the SU Bookstore offered a 25 percent discount on clothing and gifts, and the University Fitness Club announced its free membership to faculty and staff during the month of July.
Before and after the picnic, University Police Chief Edwin Lashley presented two information sessions on “What to Expect and Do During a Hostile Event on Campus.” All employees also were offered a discounted $30 registration to Sea Gull Century, which they still may take advantage of through Friday, October 4, by calling the Sea Gull Century Office at 410-548-2772.
