Student Business Leaders

Our Mission: Create stronger connections between students and the Perdue School of Business by acting as a resource for the students, faculty and community.

Overview:

Successful leaders share similar skills and excellence in time management, interpersonal communication, organization, planning, networking, and research/resource gathering.  The Student Business Leaders at the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business are chosen because they exhibit such traits and successfully continue to develop them throughout their service to the school.

The program is supervised by the Perdue School of Business Advising Services Coordinator and the Undergraduate Programs Coordinator.  The students attend an intensive 8-hour training program in which they learn about the pre-professional program, professional program, Gate admission, general education requirements and resources available to students.  Additionally, mandatory workshops are offered throughout the semesters to further educate the Student Business Leaders.

The  roles of our  Student  Business  Leaders  vary.   They help freshmen

students with their transition to college by being available to answer their questions and by preparing an informational Business Student Freshman Orientation.  This orientation includes information on the business school, understanding the degree progress report, group scheduling and general business student matters.

Our Leaders attend all Open Houses for current and future students, making a connection with the students as the school’s representatives.  They answer questions the students may have and speak about the Business School Experience.

Our Student Business Leaders are expected to help advisees with scheduling and understanding the business school academic process and requirements.  They refer students to other areas within the college that may assist them.  They refer all students with a 2.0 or lower cumulative GPA to the Advising Services Coordinator.  They answer emails containing questions from students and make friendly contact with all new students.

SBLs also actively participate with community outreach by attending chamber of commerce meetings and job fairs, as well as speaking with and contacting employers on behalf of the ABLE (internship) program.  Additionally, they support our goal to connect with future PSB students by facilitating and hosting University tours for at-risk students from local middle schools.

Our program for SBLs reinforces their skills for success while attending college as well as skills needed for the workforce.   They plan professional programs and academic workshops with the guidance of the Undergraduate Programs Coordinator and the Advising Services Coordinator.   This includes presenting workshop material to students planning to complete an internship and facilitating activities for the professional development courses.  They secure guest speakers, take care of meeting logistics and follow up with student evaluations of the speaker(s).

Through their excellent organizational skills, they schedule over 500 students per semester for group information sessions and one-on-one advising appointments.

Our student leaders are expected to prepare correspondence for students, faculty, staff and businesses.  Verbal and written communication skills are vital to their success both in the school and in future employment.

Our  SBLs  represent  the  essence  of  the  Perdue  School  of   Business.
