Double Major vs. Dual Degree
Students may simultaneously satisfy the requirements for
more than one major program. All major programs appear
as a part of the student’s degree when satisfactory
completion is certified by the Registrar’s Office.
Students completing more than one major receive one
baccalaureate degree from Salisbury University.
Individuals who wish to receive two baccalaureate
degrees from Salisbury University simultaneously, must
complete a minimum of 150 semester hours of coursework,
and must fulfill the regularly prescribed requirements
for both degree programs. Students should formally
declare all major programs as early in their academic
career as possible and are encouraged to seek advisement
from each department to ensure completion of all
requirements in each degree. The student’s desire to
receive two degrees must be noted on the Application for
Diploma form when applying for graduation.
Additionally, during advising students must notify their
Faculty Advisor that they are working on the completion
of two degrees as this information is not noted on the
student’s degree progress report.
Second Bachelors Degree
Individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree from
Salisbury University or another regionally accredited
institution may earn a second undergraduate degree in a
different major at the University. Second degree
students must complete a minimum of 30 new semester
hours of coursework with a cumulative grade point
average of at least 2.0 and satisfy all requirements for
the major. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree
in a business field will need to be formally admitted
into the business school Professional Program.
Admission criteria for the Professional Program may be
In addition, 15 of the 30 new hours must be in
coursework from the major department that could be used
to satisfy program requirements. Second bachelor’s
degree candidates will be eligible to graduate with
honors only if they satisfy all graduation with honors
requirements using credit earned after the completion of
their prior degree.
A prerequisite is a course that must be completed
before advancing into the next course. Students cannot
take a course and its prerequisite concurrently.
Furthermore, students are responsible for knowing what
the prerequisites are for courses they wish to take.
Students with waiver/substitutions may have difficultly
enrolling in courses that rely on a pre-requisite course
that was waived or subbed. Students who have difficulty
signing up for classes can contact the Office of
Advising in the Student Services Center. Additionally, GullNet
will not be checking for pre-requisites.
Pre-requisite information may be found in the catalog.
Repeating a Course
Courses repeated to fulfill a Perdue School major or
minor requirement must be repeated at Salisbury
University. For example, students who repeat required
courses to improve D or F grades must take those courses
at Salisbury University.
Pre-professional courses may only be repeated one time.
If a student fails to satisfactorily complete the course
or does not reach the minimum gate GPA for admissions
the student may not continue in the Business Program.
Taking a Course at Another Institution
Students who want to take a Business course at
another school and transfer it back to SU should make an
appointment with the Advising Services Coordinator to
review the course and receive permission to take the
course at another institution. They must also complete a
Request to Study at Another Institution form before
taking the course, available in the Registrar's Office,
HH 120 or on the Registrar's web site.
If the student wishes to take a general education
course elsewhere, they must complete the Request to
Study at Another Institution for the course and have it
approved at the Registrar’s Office.
