How do I enroll for Internship Credit?

To successfully enroll in an ABLE Internship, follow the steps below in order.

  1. Be cleared academically to participate in an internship.

This includes being admitted to the Perdue School of Business and completing any pre-requisites for your major. To be sure you are cleared, CLICK HERE.

  2. Successfully complete BUAD 300.

Students generally complete BUAD 300 during their 1st semester of their junior year.

  3. Attend an ABLE Introduction Workshop and the Pre-Internship Seminar at least one semester prior to enrolling in an internship for credit.

Generally, students attend an ABLE Introduction workshop as a requirement of BUAD 300. Dates for the Pre-Internship seminars are posted on the Perdue Sign up page each semester.

  4. Find and secure an internship.

Internships can be found using eRecruiting, networking, and a number of other ways. As part of the job seeking process, students need to apply, interview, and be selected for an internship prior to registering for an internship course for credit. The selection of a student by a company will be very similar to selection for employment. The ABLE office does not place students in internships. However, if you have any questions or are having problems finding an internship please contact the ABLE office for guidance-BEFORE the deadline!

Keep in mind: interning with family is prohibited!

Suggestion: Open an eRecruiting account and upload your resume!
    (Go to eRecruiting Now!)

  5. Complete an online application via: https://www2.salisbury.edu/able/app/login.asp

The following online paperwork must be completed:

    • ABLE Internship Agreement, Disclosure, and Certifications
    • Business Internship Student Application
    • Learning Goals and Objectives
    • ABLE Internship Credit Agreement

Once your section of the application is completed, an email will be sent to your site supervisor requesting they complete their portion. A check mark indicates successful completion.

  6. Department chairs (or a representative) will review the online application and will either approve it or place it in a "reviewed" status.  Reviewed means the application has been reviewed by the department chair but there are some issues or concerns.  Notes may be added so students are encouraged to check back often until the internship is either approved or denied.

    Department Chairs/Representatives are:

    • Accounting: Dr. Ken Smith, Chair
    • Management & Marketing: Dr. Frank Shipper, Chair
    • Finance & BUAD-Econ: Dr. Herman Manakyan, Chair
    • Information Systems: Dr. Kathie Wright, Chair

BUAD- International Business: Dr Jing Quan (eff Sp'12)

BUAD- Individualized: Dr Christy Weer, Assoc Dean

  7. Check your SU email account daily-even during breaks!

The ABLE Office staff will process your online application once it has been approved and then email you with the information [i.e. permission number] needed to register for the three credit 490 course (which accompanies all internships for credit). Classes are generally delivered on-line with only a few face to face meetings.  NOTE: Details of the first class meeting will be in the email from the ABLE office as well. Please allow 5-7 business days for your online application to be approved and processed. You may experience additional delays during peak times [i.e. close to deadline]!

  8. Register for your faculty supervised class on GullNet.

Using the permission number provided by the ABLE office, go to GullNet to register. The permission number will guide you to the appropriate 490/491 course for your major. Students can register during normal registration periods, amnesty week, and during drop/add periods. A $15 fee will be imposed once the student has enrolled.
