Race for Innovation
On November 8, over 30 competitive students and professionals participated in the Perdue School of Business’ inaugural Race to Innovation entrepreneurial event. The event was hosted with help from Women in Leadership, CEO Club, Sales Club and Phi Beta Lambda.
Participants work as a team during the ideation hour.
After registration, participants moved around the room and discussed over 10 different business ideas that were submitted prior to the event. Teams of three-to-five people formed around the seven most popular business concepts. Each team separated into different study rooms and spent the next hour doing “ideation.†The diverse backgrounds of the students and professionals added new and innovative ideas to the original basic business concepts. Then, the teams each put together a short presentation and pitched the new business concepts to a panel of judges.
The panel of judges included Nancy Dix, owner of Viva Espresso; Walter Moore, president and CEO of APPI Energy; and Marty Neat, president of First Shore Federal. The panel judged on criteria important to the success of a new business, such as the ability to make money, innovation and ease of implementation. Monetary prizes were awarded to the Veggi-O, FedXmas and landlord-tenant relationship Web site business concepts.
The CEO Club will hold the event again next year in the fall 2013 semester. For more information on the event, contact this year’s coordinator, Danielle Hart, at email@example.com.
