I am a senior double majoring in accounting and information systems with a minor in finance. I have been fortunate to be a Perdue Scholar for the past four years and a Student Business Leader for the last three years. However, my path through college has not been as straight-forward as taking advantage of these opportunities. At the beginning of my career at Salisbury, I was unsure what career path I wanted to follow. Since then, I have majored in just about every field offered by the Perdue School of Business and had opportunities to explore a wide range of options. But in the fall of my junior year, I finally found my academic home in the Information and Decision Sciences Department (INFO).

I have always enjoyed learning and challenging myself and when I heard about the SAP TERP10 certification that the INFO Department was offering, I knew that was the path for me because it would challenge me and prepare me for a wide range of fields by learning about enterprise resource planning software. I am now in the third of three preparatory courses offered and will be sitting for the certification exam in January 2015. The TERP10 certification is the entry-level certification offered by SAP in the use and configuration of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. The certification includes a nine-day course followed by an exam. Those who sit for and pass the certification exam become a SAP Certified Associate - Integration of Business Processes in SAP ERP. This January will be the second time the exam has been offered at Salisbury University.

The combination of INFO and accounting has been instrumental in my job search. I interned at McGladrey this past summer in the tax department of the Baltimore office. However, after completing my second class in the ERP track, I knew that I wanted to work with ERP software. Luckily, McGladrey has a consulting arm that focuses on the implementation of ERP systems and that is where I will be starting my career full time in July 2015, following graduation. The combinations of opportunities that I have been able to take advantage of within the Perdue School have helped guide me toward the academic and career path that is right for me.
