Leonard Arvi received the 2012-2013 Perdue School Faculty Teaching Award.

Mike Koval and Dr. E. Patrick McDermott's journal article entitled "Mediator Style and Behavior: What You See and What You Get" has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Employment and Labor Law of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.

During Dr. E. Patrick McDermott's Fulbright year in China he was able to interact with scholars throughout China. As a result, for this academic year, PSB will be hosting visiting scholar Professor Liu Pu, from the prestigious University of Electronic Science and Technology located in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Darrell Wilson has been appointed as a member of the Holly Center Citizens Advisory Board. The Center is a State Residential Center established within the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDE) of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. It is responsible for the provision of needed services to people who are intellectually disabled admitted to the facility while working to integrate these people into less restrictive settings in the community.

Lois Haggerty has been named the 2013 State Star of the Maryland SBTDC. The award was presented at the Association of Small Business Development Centers National Conference in Orlando, Florida on September 10, 2013.

Dr. Carole Champagne has joined BEACON’s Bienvenidos a Delmarva initiative as Program Coordinator for the Fall 2013 semester. ELI student Lizette (Melisa) Aristizabal Vizcaino will be her Program Assistant.

Ms. Sarah Bunch, Assistant Director of BEACON, has successfully completed her comprehensive examinations and is now working on her dissertation proposal in the Organizational Leadership Ph.D. program at UMES.

Seth Whaley has joined BEACON as a Project Assistant. He is in charge of updating BEACON’s social media strategy and implementing the organization’s Fall 2013 social media presence. He is supervised by BEACON Assistant Director, Ms. Sarah Bunch.

The Small Business and Technology Development Center at the Perdue School was recently awarded three grants to assist businesses and watermen in the four county area of Maryland affected by Hurricane Sandy. The Center was also awarded a Maryland Agricultural and Rural Dural Development Assistance Fund grant to provide targeted training to watermen in the area.
