Students Participate in International Case Competition

While most SU students were enjoying their spring break basking in the sun on a tropical, white sand beach somewhere in the Caribbean Islands, four industrious PSB students were participating in an international business case competition at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The four students were Marie Visconage, Alexis Burr, Vincent Darrah and Justin Barnard. The competition lasted three full days and included 20 colleges and universities from around the world.

The format of the competition required each team to be secluded for three hours (with no cell phone or access to the internet) during which time they read, analyzed and prepared a case presentation. At the end of the three hours, the students presented their analysis of the case to a panel of judges comprised of business men and women. The presentation lasted a maximum of 20 minutes with a period of 10 minutes for questions and answers.

Although the PSB team did not win the overall competition, they improved their performance with each case presentation. In fact, in the third and final case competition, they finished in fourth place. But, the real reward for the team came from the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to a beautiful part of the world, to develop lasting relationships with other international business students and to present several case analyses in front of many business professionals in a real-world environment. It was truly a maturing and growing experience for all!
