Student Spotlight: Adebola Daramola
For most of my professional life, I worked in retail banking roles across functional areas like operations, product development and marketing, segment marketing, relationship management, and sales. Though I started my career in banking operations, I recognized early the disruptive potential of technology to our line of business. My thought leadership helped me move into a role where I was responsible for the research and start-up of a retail marketing segment. Before coming to the Perdue School, my last role in ECOBANK Nigeria was regional head of sales where I managed a team that executed mass market sales activities. I also serve as pro-bono advisor to Nigerian technology firms like Wecyclers, Quintas Renewable Energy Solutions, RAMP.ng and CashEnvoy. I have published a peer-reviewed paper on "New Technology-Based Firms and Venture Capital Policy in Nigeria."
I recently considered a career change to emerging market investing and I realized that I needed to earn my M.B.A. At SU, I work with Dr. Amit Poddar, chair of the Management and Marketing Department, as a research assistant for the Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute (MASMI), where I manage the MASMI website, sponsors’ relationship and events. I also am helping other faculty with research on topics like shared entrepreneurship. Upon graduation, I am looking at a placement in an investment firm focused on emerging market investing. I want a role at sourcing deals and committing long-term risk capital to Africa entrepreneurial firms.
