Employer Spotlight: McGladrey

McGladrey

McGladrey is the fifth largest public accounting firm providing services in assurance, tax and consulting with a focus in the middle market. But five is just a number, do you want to know who we really are? We are the go-getter, the solider, the working mother, the athlete, the adventurist, the leader! Our motto is “Personalities Wanted,” and we definitely don’t fall short. We strive every day to grow our firm with individuals who can add value in their own unique way.

At McGladrey, it’s all about our clients. We keep our focus on understanding what’s important to them, their business and their success. This guides how we create a unique experience that meets their needs, expectations and preferences. And it’s how we measure the very real and tangible value they receive when working with us.

Our clients have worked hard to get to where they are, and so have our people. Our approach to managing our people mirrors our responsibility to our clients. By understanding what’s important to you, we will create meaningful experiences that lead to a rewarding career. McGladrey is a place where you are valued as an individual, mentored as a future leader, and recognized for your accomplishments and potential.

By heavily recruiting at Salisbury University, we have been able to bring on many talented Sea Gulls to join the McGladrey team. We’ve continued to have great success with SU alum who start their careers with us and go on to make a difference as they transition in to leaders of the firm. But don’t take it from us, read on to hear from some of our recent SU alum on their experiences at McGladrey so far:

Brittany Gaver (Class of 2012), Audit Associate, Frederick, MD, Office:
I enjoy the variety of work I experience with McGladrey. Not only do I get to work on a variety of clients in different industries, but I am never in one place too long. As an assurance associate, I travel to clients and get to go to different office locations. I have even experienced a trip to Alaska for a client. Life at McGladrey is pretty similar to Salisbury in the sense that there is always someone willing to teach you and help you grow. Everyone who I have worked with at McGladrey is always willing to answer questions, no matter how silly they may seem. The advice I would give to an SU student starting an internship/full-time position are to ask questions and always have a notepad. Also, try to tackle the CPA exam as early as possible.

Amy Gilbert (Class of 2011), Audit Senior Associate, Baltimore Office:
What I enjoy most about McGladrey is meeting new people. Each engagement gives me the opportunity to work with someone new. The culture is very similar to Salisbury in the sense that the family feeling is still there. The engagement teams treat each other as friends, and they know what is going in your life outside of work, whether it be studying for CPA, a family crisis, medical issue, exciting event – everyone is very supportive. The advice I’d give to an SU student in the job search process is to introduce yourself to everyone that you meet. Sometimes there are so many people in the office that we do not know who an intern is or who has been there for a while. It is best to make connections with everyone you meet and build your network early.
