Holloway Hall

Global Programs

Germany - January 2009

In January 4-17, 2009, the 14th Global Winter Term Program was held in conjunction with our partner the Technical University of Berlin.  Thirty-one students were accompanied by three faculty members (Profs. Dombrowski, Hoffman, and Holloway). The 2009 program had a couple of firsts:  accounting students outnumbered business students, 19-12; an alumna of the program joined as a faculty member, Prof. Susanne Holloway participated in Rennes program in  2001 as a student; and  we also held SU’s first international alumni reunion abroad.

Students in our global programs take a 3 credit course taught by SU faculty; these are supplemented by guest lecturers from our host school and field trips to local businesses and to historic sites. The winter term program has been held in five different countries (Britain, Chile, France, Germany, and Ireland).

Overall, students highly praised the program.

Samples of students’ comments from past Study Abroad:

"Everything went very smoothly. All of the tours really helped broaden my ideas about Germany/London. The SU staff was very helpful and very understanding when having to put up with us. Being in another country when learning about international business really does help understand the concept of having to adapt the business structure to relate to other cultures."

"I had the best time of my life. I have done the study abroad trips before and this trip by far was the most amazing memory of my life. The food was great and having a German student helping throughout the trip was most helpful. Give Felix an “A”."

"I loved everything about the trip!"

"I loved almost everything. The professors were great and very helpful."

"I thought British Airways did an EXCELLENT job and would suggest everyone keep a close eye on their passport on buses and terminals. And Dr. Hoffman did an excellent job with every aspect of the trip."

"All of the group dinners were a great way to reconnect with our classmates. Since we were all sightseeing and different times, it was great to see everyone again."
