The Perdue School Announces
New Information Systems “Flex” Curriculum
An innovative change to
the Information Systems major is in effect beginning Fall 2009. The new
major curriculum is designed to provide students with the flexibility needed
to prepare for a host of different career paths. The new flexibility also
improves the fit between the Information Systems major and other Perdue
School majors while increasing the number of courses that may apply to more
than one major.
First, the revised major
restructures and reduces the number of required Information Systems major
courses. The below two courses should be taken in the first year of the
major and can be taken in either order or concurrently:
INFO 301 Business
Applications Development
INFO 311 Business Systems Analysis
Second, the revised major
increases flexibility through an increase in the number and scope of
Information Systems electives. “Soft-tracks” are sets of four related
elective courses that prepare students for different career paths.
(1) to prepare you for
various high impact career paths in Information Systems. Four soft-tracks
are currently available:
Business Systems Analyst
(INFO 385, INFO 386, INFO 470, elective)
Information Resource Specialist (INFO 350, INFO 386, INFO 470,
elective)
Network Technology Specialist (INFO 385, INFO 485, INFO 450,
elective)
Business Intelligence Analyst (INFO 386, INFO 340, INFO 395,
elective)
(2) to compliment another
major that you are simultaneously pursuing in order to increase your
marketability and broaden your career options.
INFO as second major for
Accounting:
Business Systems Analyst or Business Intelligence Analyst with ACCT 420 as
the fourth elective.
INFO as second major for Finance: Business Intelligence Analyst with
INFO 315 or 470 as the fourth elective.
INFO as second major for Management: Business Systems Analyst or
Information Resource Specialist with INFO 315 as the fourth elective.
INFO as second major for Marketing: Business Intelligence Analyst
with INFO 315 or 350 or 470 as the fourth elective, or Information Resource
Specialist with INFO 340 as the fourth elective.
*Note
to all students: PSB school-wide policy requires an International course
(INFO 465 or ACCT 430/435 or BUAD 386/396 or ECON 441 or FINA 447 or MGMT
422 or MKTG 423) and an ABLE course (INFO 490 or 476 or ACCT 490/497 or BUAD
490 or FINA 490/449 or MGMT 490 or MKTG 490).
**Note to double majors: The following courses count for both the
Information Systems and another major:
Accounting: ACCT 420 (Accounting Information Systems)
Finance: INFO 301 (Business Application Development)
Management: INFO 315 (Project Management)
Marketing: INFO 340 (Data-mining) |
