Salisbury University President Janet
Dudley-Eshbach announced her Partners for Progress in the
Community Initiative in 2004, inspiring the campus to work
diligently to strengthen town-gown ties.
As the initiative states, "Since the founding of this institution in
1925, the greater Salisbury community has played a significant
role in ensuring the existence and success of Salisbury
University. …Were it not for the support of the area community,
SU would not be the exceptional institution it is today."
One of the
pillars of a Salisbury University education is community
outreach and civic engagement.
Each year, students in some 100 organizations
perform more than
 35,000 hours of volunteer service, from
mentoring local children to removing litter from highways.
Likewise, many faculty and staff support community causes
personally as well as through campus offices and programs.
