Welcome to Family Weekend 2008
You and your family are invited to enjoy a weekend of events designed specifically for Salisbury University families. Below is a tentative schedule of events. Invitations to family weekend with registrations forms will be mailed home at the beginning of September. Here is a snapshot of the weekend events as the planning continues!!!
Tentative Schedule of Events:
Friday, October 31st
8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Family Weekend Check-in: Guerrieri
University Center,Information Desk
8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sea Gull Shopping Commons, University
Bookstore
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Open Classrooms: Various Locations-
Parents and family members may select from our list of classes
to have a real Salisbury classroom experience. A copy of the
class list is available on the Family Weekend web site or at the
check-in table.
11 a.m. Family Weekend Golf Challenge: Nutter’s Crossing
Golf Course- Come out and play a round with your family at this
fun event. No winners, no losers, just great memories. $75 – two
person team. Registration is required.
5 p.m. Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC) Tour:
The School of Education has long been the cornerstone of
Salisbury University dating back to its inception as the
Maryland State Teachers College so it is fitting the TETC with
its combination of the Seidel School of Education and technology
remains the cornerstone of SU heading into the future. Stop by
and see the newest jewel on SU’s campus.
6 – 8 p.m. Family Weekend Fall Festival: Scarborough
Leadership Center- Bring your family out for this festive event
including pumpkin decorating, games, trick-or-treating,
inflatable fun and much more. This is a great way to kick off
Family Weekend 2008.
7 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: The Mummy 3- Tomb of the
Dragon Emperor (Caruthers Hall Auditorium) The third installment
of The Mummy series is set in the Far East where they unearth
the mummy of the First Emperor of Qin – a shape shifting entity
who was cursed by a wizard centuries ago. (Rated PG-13)
8 p.m. Family Weekend Showcase 2008: Holloway Hall
Auditorium- Join us for this feature of student performances in
dance, acapella, and gospel singing.
Saturday, November 1st
10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. Teacher Education and
Technology Center (TETC) Tours
8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Family Weekend Check-in: Guerrieri
University Center, Information Desk
8 – 9 a.m. Legacy Breakfast: Alumni House- This event is
by invitation only. If you have any questions, please contact
the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at
410-543-6042.
9 – 9:50 a.m. SU Study Abroad: TETC, Room 153- SU’s
Center for International Education presents an opportunity to
learn more about study abroad programs available to SU students,
including incorporating travel into your major, scholarships,
financial aid, and much more.
10 – 10:50 a.m. The Wide World of Financial Aid and What it
Means to You: TETC, Room 153- Get an overview of financial
aid programs and current developments in the worlds of financial
aid.
10 – 10:50 a.m. Salisbury University Master Plan Update:
TETC, Room 156- SU has changed significantly over the past few
decades. Come hear and see how the campus has changed and what
it will look like by the time your son/daughter graduates!
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sea Gull Shopping: Commons, University
Bookstore
11 – 11:50 a.m. What Employers Expect from your Son/Daughter:
Guerrieri University Center, Career Services Office- As parents,
you want your son/daughter to have a successful, productive
career after college. With that in mind, many students are not
aware of what it takes to be a competitive employee while
conducting a job/internship search. The best way to discover
employer expectations is to hear it from a panel of employers
and students in that environment. Also, this will be an
excellent time to ask the questions you always wanted to ask!
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Leadership Brunch: Commons, Bistro-
President Janet Dudley-Eshbach hosts a brunch with University
leadership including the provost, vice presidents, academic
deans and faculty. We encourage you to register your family
early as seating is limited. Please include your student in the
registration count. Cost: $10 adults, $5 (children 6-12), Free
(children under 5), Meal Plan (SU students, if applicable).
Registration is required.
1 p.m. Football vs. Wesley College: Sea Gull Stadium-
Admission: $5 adults, $3 students (non-SU), $2 children 12 and
under, Free with SU ID. Family members can purchase $3.00
discount tickets for the football game at the Guerrieri
University Center Information Desk until 11:00 a.m. on game day.
2 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: The Mummy 3- Tomb of the
Dragon Emperor (Caruthers Hall Auditorium )
4 p.m. Parent & Family Association Post-Game Social:
Henson Science Hall Lawn-
Come by after the football game wraps up and enjoy a sweet
autumn afternoon treat including hot cider, apples, and donuts.
This event is free and open to all family weekend participants.
5 – 7:30 p.m. Seventh Annual Recipes from Home Dinner and
Dinner Theater: Commons, Bistro- Submit your favorite family
recipe for a chance to win top honors and have the recipes
prepared by our own Dining Services. Get submission details on
the family Weekend Website. Additionally, this year’s Recipes
from Home includes a production from SU’s Theater Program and is
another great way to see the students of SU in action. This
small, two act performance begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost (plus tax):
$9.97 adults, $6.06 children (6-12), free children 5 and under.
7 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: The Mummy 3- Tomb of the
Dragon Emperor (Caruthers Hall Auditorium)
8 p.m. Spotlight Entertainment – Illusionist/Mentalist Wayne
Hoffman: Holloway Hall Auditorium- Experience an evening
with one of the top 10 mentalists in the world! He combines
unparalleled sleight of hand with unforgettable mind reading
abilities to create a spectacular journey into his audiences
mind. Expect the unexpected!
Sunday, November 2nd
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Jazz Brunch: Commons- Enjoy brunch with
the musical talent of SU band Muskrat Sally.
7 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: The Mummy 3- Tomb of the
Dragon Emperor (Holloway Hall Auditorium)
