Friday, September 28, 2007

8am - 2pm  Open Classrooms  Parents and family members who are able to join us beginning Friday morning may select from our list of classes to have a real Salisbury classroom experience.  You are invited to visit any class of interest whether or not your student is enrolled in that class. 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Bookstore Open - Sea Gull Shopping  Get your Sea Gull gear and other Salisbury mementos from the SU Bookstore.  University Bookstore, Commons

10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Family Weekend Check-In  Stop by the family weekend check-in desk for University, Salisbury and event information.  Guerrieri University Center

Noon  Family Weekend Golf Challenge  This two-person scramble with your son or daughter may qualify you for the National Collegiate Golf Championships held in November in Las Vegas.  Cost:  $90.00/per two person team.  Registration is required.  Nutters Crossing Golf Course.

4:00 p.m. Women's Volleyball Salisbury Invitational Tournament                            Magg's Physical Activities Center

5:30 p.m.  Field Hockey vs. Messiah  Sea Gull Stadium

7:00 p.m.  Family Weekend Movie:  Evan Almighty  This sequel to the hit Bruce Almighty, finds Steve Carrell reprising his role as Evan Baxter, who newly elected to Congress, moves his family to Virginia only to have God appear and mysteriously command him to build an ark in this hilarious comedy.  Come see it before it comes out on DVD!  Caruthers Hall Auditorium

8:00 p.m.  Spotlight Entertainment:  Mind Reader Robert Channing  Experience an evening with one of the world's most foremost mind readers.  Witness the impossible and be astounded by an incredible journey of the mysteries of the mind.  Robert Channing has been seen on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX!  Robert Channing's show is exciting, riveting, and clean - with a perfect blend of comedy.  Visit his website for more information (www.robertchanning.com).  This event is free and open to all students and family members.  Holloway Hall Auditorium

9:00 - 10:00 a.m.  Fulton School of Liberal Arts Presentation.  Playing with Possibilities:  Revision in the Writing Process - It's not all about editing anymore!  This mini-class will demonstrate how revision allows writers to see their work anew.  Participants will learn about the possibilities for revision and have the opportunity to rewrite pieces for specific purposes and audiences.  Presentation by:  Dr. Loren Marquez, English Faculty and Ms. Nicole Munday, Director of the University Writing Center.  Henson Hall 103

10:30 - 11:30 a.m.  Henson School of Science and Technology Presentation.  Cloud Forest Biology:  DNA Expedition to Cusuco National Park in Honduras.  In collaboration with Operation Wallacea, a biodiversity expedition group, Drs. Kimberly and Richard Hunter taught a course in molecular biology in a very primitive part of Honduras.  They took SU students who helped teach the course, and conducted original genetic studies on the plants and animals in the National Park.  Dr. Hunter will describe the expedition, the research, and the fun that can be had when you are brave.  Come and see what Salisbury University students are doing!   Presentation by:  Dr. Kimberly Hunter, Biological Sciences faculty.  Henson Hall 103

10:30 - 11:30 a.m.  Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies Presentation.  Experiences in International Education.  A panel of faculty and students from the Seidel School will share their experiences in international education - as part of their internship experiences and a summer tour that has proven very successful.  Experiences in China, Germany, Denmark, the Virgin Islands and New Zealand will be featured.  Presentation by:  Dr. Claudia Burgess, Ms. Amy Haddad, Ms. Makeda Norton, and Ms. Lauren Monroe.  Henson Hall 243
