Salisbury University Family Weekend 2009

Event Schedule

You and your family are invited to enjoy a weekend of events designed specifically for Salisbury University families. Below is a tentative schedule of events. Invitations to family weekend with registrations forms will be mailed home at the beginning of September. Here is a snapshot of the weekend events as the planning continues!

Schedule of Events

Friday, October 2nd

  • 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Family Weekend Information Center: Guerrieri University Center
  • 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sea Gull Shopping Commons, University Bookstore

  • 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Open Classrooms: Various Locations- Parents and family members may select from our list of classes to have a real Salisbury classroom experience. A copy of the class list is available on the Family Weekend web site or at the information center.

  • 7 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (Caruthers Hall Auditorium)

  • 8 p.m. Family Weekend Showcase 2009: Holloway Hall Auditorium- Join us for this feature of student performances in dance, acapella, and gospel singing.

Saturday, October 3rd

  • 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Family Weekend Information Center: Guerrieri University Center, The Link to the Commons- Come by and get your updated schedules for Saturday and Sunday and other important information. There will be coffee and other light refreshments for the hungry. Family Weekend giveaways when you sign-up at the Parent's Register.
     
  • 9 - 10 a.m. Legacy Breakfast: Alumni House- This event is by invitation only. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at 410-543-6042.
     
  • 9 – 9:50 a.m. SU Study Abroad: Guerrieri University Center, Nanticoke Room (Rm 236)- SU’s Center for International Education presents an opportunity to learn more about study abroad programs available to SU students, including incorporating travel into your major, scholarships, financial aid, and much more.
     
  • 10 a.m. Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC) Tour:  The education program has long been the cornerstone of SU dating back to its inception as the Maryland State Teachers College, so it is fitting that the TETC takes its place as the physical cornerstone of SU.  Stop by and see the newest jewel on SU's campus.
     
  • 10 – 10:50 a.m. What Employers Expect from your Son/Daughter: Guerrieri University Center, Career Services Office (Rm. 133)- As parents, you want your son/daughter to have a successful, productive career after college. With that in mind, many students are not aware of what it takes to be a competitive employee while conducting a job/internship search. The best way to discover employer expectations is to hear it from a panel of employers and students in that environment. Also, this will be an excellent time to ask the questions you always wanted to ask!
     
  • 10 – 10:50 a.m. Salisbury University Master Plan Update: Guerrieri University Center, Center for Student Achievement Office (Rm. 213)- SU has changed significantly over the past few decades. Come hear and see how the campus has changed and what it will look like by the time your son/daughter graduates!
     
  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sea Gull Shopping: Commons, University Bookstore
     
  • 11 – 11:50 a.m. The Wide World of Financial Aid and What it Means to You: Guerrieri University Center, Nanticoke Room (RM 236) - Get an overview of financial aid programs and current developments in the worlds of financial aid.
     
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Leadership Brunch: Commons, Bistro- President Janet Dudley-Eshbach hosts a brunch with University leadership including the provost, vice presidents, academic deans and faculty. We encourage you to register your family early as seating is

  • 1 p.m. Football vs. Apprentice School: Sea Gull Stadium- Admission: $5 adults, $3 students (non-SU), $2 children 12 and under, Free with SU ID. Family members can purchase $3.00 discount tickets for the football game at the Guerrieri University Center Information Desk until 11:00 a.m. on game day.
     
  • 2 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (Caruthers Hall Auditorium )
     
  • 4 p.m. Parent & Family Association Post-Game Ice Cream Social and Faculty Mixer: Devilbiss Mall - Come by after the football game wraps up and enjoy a sweet afternoon treat while meeting many of SU's exemplary faculty. presented by the SU Parents and Family Association, this event is free and open to all family weekend participants.
     
  • 5 – 7:30 p.m. Eighth Annual Recipes from Home Dinner and The Meeting Dinner Theater: Commons, Bistro- Mom and Dad, do you have a different or favorite family recipe that your student loves?  We need your recipe.  Imagine your recipe being served to thousands of hungry students!  As a thank you for sending your recipe, you receive two complimentary guest meal passes to enjoy during your next visit.  SU's chef reviews each recipe and chooses those that will be showcased.  Visit www.salisbury.edu/dining to download the entry form; deadline is Friday, September 18.  Enjoy a performance of Jeff Stetson's award-winning play, The Meeting,  which explores the notion of what would happen if Malcolm X met with Martin Luther King Jr. in a Harlem hotel room on Valentine's Day 1965.  Cost (plus tax): $10.36 adults, $6.30 children (6-12), free children 5 and under.

  • 10 a.m.  Family Weekend Golf Challenge Nutters Crossing Golf Course - Come out and play a round with your family at this fun event.  No winners, no losers, just great memories.  $75.00 - two person team.  Registration is required.

     

  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Jazz Brunch: Commons- Enjoy brunch with the musical talent of SU band Slim DeNunn and the High Rollers. Cost (plus tax): $8.32 adults, $4.29 children (6-12), free children 5 and under.  
     
  • 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Free Wildfowl Art: Maryland artist share the skills and creative talents from the past alive in the present day. see up close the tools and techniques used to create artworks exhibited in the museums galleries.
     
  • 7 p.m. Family Weekend Movie: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (Holloway Hall Auditorium)
