FAMILY WEEKEND 2012 will be held Friday, October 19th – Sunday, October 21st.

Family Weekend is a special time to visit the Salisbury campus. You will have many opportunities to experience University life throughout the weekend. Take in a class taught by our outstanding faculty. Experience the social opportunities planned specifically for our students and families. Attend a faculty lecture. Meet with the President. Cheer on our fabulous student-athletes as they battle conference foes in men's soccer and football. Visit with students, faculty and staff and experience Salisbury University culture first hand.

If you are planning on attending family weekend and need lodging, we encourage you to make reservations as soon as possible. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to spend time with your student and engage with the Salisbury University community!

Noon-4 p.m. Art Exhibit Opens - Daily Practice, University Gallery at Fulton Hall
This multimedia extravaganza of sights and sounds represents all that goes into the contemporary and experimental practice of the young, Chicago-based firm Plural Design. Jeremiah Chiu and Renata Graw founded Plural in 2008. With a focus on pursuing meaningful projects, Plural explores new approaches within the design process, experimenting in a wide range of media including print, web, video, sound, interactive and installation. Despite their relatively short time as a firm, Plural has already garnered awards and attention from Print Magazine, HOW Magazine, Communication Arts, Creative Review, AIGA and Typeforce. 2 p.m. Adrenaline High’s Discover Delmarva Friends and Family Paddle
SU students and their families are invited to take part in this 2.5-3- hour kayak trip on the Manokin River and Jones Creek for this guided, 8-mile kayak trip, which includes snacks and water. Registered attendees meet at the Guerrieri University Center’s Dogwood Parking Lot entrance. Cost is $35 per person. 4 - 6 p.m. Hot Glass Workshop - Pulled Glass Flower, Fulton Hall Glass Shop (Room 129) Presented by The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury Learn how to gather and manipulate hot glass to create pulled glass flowers for display inside or outside.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required $70 Ward Members/SU; $85 Non Ward Members.

SU announces the world premiere of an original drama
written and directed by faculty member T. Paul Pfeiffer. Set against 16th- century Scotland’s political infighting, religious terrorism and deep personal turmoil, King James VI (future James I of England) wages Holy War on both the devil and himself in this intense drama based on the court records of the witch trials in pursuit of “The Devil of North Berwick,” which as the “Watergate” of its day left a swath of misery, religious intolerance and government terrorism.

An overview of college costs, financial aid and financial literacy for families and students is provided.

SU’s Center for International Education presents an opportunity to learn more about study abroad programs available to SU students, including incorporating travel into any major, scholarships, financial aid and much more.

9-10:15 a.m.  Where to Live Next Year-Housing Options Beyond the First Year, Guerrieri University Center, Wicomico Room  With the opening of Sea Gull Square, the partnership with University Park and hundreds of other “off-campus” choices, determining where a student may live next is a daunting task. This session is designed to introduce your student to life beyond the traditional residence hall.

10 a.m. - Noon "Drop In Art", Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art
(909 S. Schumaker Drive)  The guest for "The Drop In Art" is John Iampieri. A wonderful artist that does Baltimore Screen painting, This unique tradition of painting on screens has long been considered an indigenous form of folk art. Iampieri, Screen Painter extraordinaire, will demonstrate and personally assist participants in the creation and completion of painted screens in the Baltimore tradition. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to take one of John's classes for free!

10 a.m. - Noon Living Learning Communities, The Quad (the grass area between all of the traditional residence halls)  This brunch is for all students and their families living in our Living Learning Communities. We want to provide an opportunity for families to interact with the faculty and staff of the LLCs and to celebrate the accomplishment of the Living Learning Communities.

10:30-11:45 a.m. Where to Live Next Year-Housing Options Beyond the First Year, Guerrieri University Center, Wicomico Room  Catch a second offering of this “off-campus” housing session.

10:30-11:45 a.m.  What Employers Expect, Guerrieri University Center, Nanticoke Room (236) As parents and family members, you want your student to have a successful and productive career after college. With that in mind, many students are not aware of what it takes to be a competitive employee while conducting a job/internship search. The best way to discover employer expectations is to hear it from a panel of employers and students in that environment. Also, this will be an excellent time to ask the questions you always wanted to ask!

Noon Football Game, SU vs. Alfred University, Sea Gull Stadium
The stadium will be rocking as our nationally ranked Sea Gulls host Alfred University in an Empire 8 Conference showdown! Admission: $5 adults, $3 students (non-SU), $2 children 12 and under, free with SU ID. Family members can purchase $3 discount tickets for the football game at the Guerrieri University Center Information Desk until 11 a.m. on game day.

Check out some great collegiate soccer action as our nationally ranked Sea Gulls host Capital Athletic Conference rival Seahawks of St. Mary’s College. Admission is free.

3-5 p.m. Parents and Family Association Ice Cream Social, Henson Lawn
(Rain Location – Perdue Hall Atrium)
After the football game, enjoy a sweet afternoon treat. Presented by the SU Parents and Family Association, this event is free and open to all Family Weekend participants.

4 p.m. Men’s Lacrosse National Championship Ring Ceremony, Holloway Hall Auditorium

On May 27, SU’s men’s lacrosse team captured their program’s 10th – and SU’s 16th – team national championship. This ceremony includes speeches by the coaches, staff and University administration, as well as highlights and lots of laughs as members of the program receive the symbol of their hard work.

6:30 p.m. Recipes from Home Dinner, Commons, Bistro  Submit your student’s favorite recipe and SU’s chef will choose those that will be showcased. This is a one-of-a-kind performance ensemble, utilizing traditional percussion techniques with all-plastic instruments, in conjunction with a revolutionary new product known as “Broomwhackers.” Showcasing a creative blend of percussion and melody, audiences can expect to hear familiar themes, ranging from classical masterpieces, Motown classics,’80s movie themes, popular music and hip-hop hits to a specific array of original compositions, all accompanied by an entertaining and visually stimulating stage show.
