A festive ribbon-cutting to mark the grand opening of SU’s new Sea Gull Square residence-retail complex highlighted Family Weekend events that saw hundreds of family members in attendance.

Many of them packed Sea Gull Stadium as the largest crowd of the season watched the SU football team defeat Empire 8 rival Springfield College, 65-23, before heading across the street to Sea Gull Square for an ice cream social hosted by the SU Parents and Family Association. In other athletics, the SU women’s soccer team outscored York College (PA), 3-1, while men’s soccer tied with The College of New Jersey, 2-2. Later in the afternoon, the 2011 SU men’s lacrosse team was lauded for its NCAA Division III championship win with a special ring ceremony.

Throughout the weekend, families enjoyed open classrooms, lectures, activities including kayak excursions and the annual Family Weekend Golf Challenge, a glassblowing demonstration, a theatre performance and special dining options including the annual Recipes From Home Dinner and Sunday jazz brunch.
