Beautiful weather, winning football, and fun social and educational activities created a Family Weekend 2009 enjoyed across generations. From athletic fields to the stage, students shared their talents with parents, siblings and other relatives Friday-Sunday, October 2-4. Open classrooms, special tours including the Teacher Education and Technology Center, and presentations such as international study gave families a first-hand look into student academic life. Families also met campus leadership at a brunch with SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach and the University's vice presidents. Early Saturday, a legacy breakfast was held in the Alumni House. That afternoon, SU football gave 1,634 fans a 77-7 victory over The Apprentice School of Newport News, VA, tying the record for most points scored in an Atlantic Central Football Conference game. An ice cream social followed, priming taste buds for the annual Recipes from Home dinner. During dinner, the SU Theatre and Dance Department performed Jeff Stetson's award-winning play The Meeting, which explored a fictional encounter between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. The evening concluded with a demonstration by mentalist duo The Evansons. Sunday’s activities included the annual parent-student golf outing, and a jazz brunch. Some comments heard from families during the weekend included praise for the campus' appearance, the helpfulness and accessibility of staff and faculty, and the good food!
