Maryland Coastal Bays Aquatic Sensitive Areas Initiative
Overview of the Project

The goal of this project was to develop an education/management plan for the aquatic sensitive areas of Maryland's coastal bays.  This project has three components (a technical component, an outreach component and an management/education component).

This is a collaborative effort of federal, state, regional and local governments and businesses and residents of Worcester County which began in May 2003.  The project is being led by the Maryland Coastal Bays Program, the Coastal Zone Management Division of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and PACE at Salisbury University.  This project is funded by grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

A Technical Task Force created maps of the aquatic sensitive resources in the bays.  The Management Team is currently conducting a series of meetings with stakeholders in Worcester County and will solicit their input.  The Team will develop a management/educational plan to address the gaps that are identified.
