Fall 2006
A Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive was held on our campus.
This drive was conducted by our Voter Registration Student Team, who are taking
part in our one credit civic engagement seminar on college student voting. This
team was led by Dr. Harry Basehart and Dr. Creston Long (History).
232 Voter Registration Forms and 240 Absentee Ballot Applications were completed
and submitted.
The drive was coordinated by student Adam Meehan. Team members included the
following 12 students: Patrick Armstrong, Helen Dalphonse,
Melanie Hassler, Katherine Kwashnik, Harrison Lytle, Adam
Miller,
Rachel Pusey, Katelyn Rozenbroek,
Courtney Shirvana, Nick
Stevens,
Isra Taha and Josh Wick.
This year PACE participated in a national
research project sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and
Universities (AASCU) and Young Voter Strategies (YVS) at George Washington
University. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the effectiveness of
classroom-based registration, which has been preferred by PACE, as well as other
voter registration methods.
Spring 2006
Dr. Harry Basehart taught a 1-credit civic
engagement seminar, "Maryland Votes - Student
Involvement in Maryland Politics & Elections"
to 6 students. The seminar focused on the question, “What can be
done to encourage Salisbury University students to become more
involved in Maryland’s primary and general elections?”
Fall 2005
A Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive was held on our
campus. This drive was conducted by our Voter Registration Student Team,
who are taking part in our one credit civic engagement seminar on college
student voting. 27 voter registration forms were processed. This team was led by
Dr. Harry Basehart and Carrie Kellams (PACE's 2005 - 2006 Thomas E. Bellavance
Intern). Team members included the following students: Mary Cieplak, Adam Felch,
Wendy Haughwout, Kailee McCoy, Adam Meehan, Obha Osman, Christian Passo, Kristin
Schaech, Corey Unangst, Kasey Wright and Daniel Zimmer.
In addition, Dr. Michael O'Loughlin and a student, Corey Unangst, updated a
report examining college Student voter registration laws that he and another
student had written in June 2001 and revised in June 2004.

Fall 2004
A Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive was held on our
campus from September 20 through October 1, 2004. This drive was conducted by
our Voter Registration Student Team, who are taking part in our one credit civic
engagement seminar on college student voting. This team was led by Dr.
Harry Basehart and Owen Jarvis (PACE's 2004 - 2005 Thomas E. Bellavance Intern).
Team members included the following students: Trisha Benton, Shanley
Crutchfield, Joel Dixon, Ryan Grimes, Jennifer Hoffman, Sarah Hund, Carrie
Kellams, Melissa Lauer, Colleen Maynard, Megan McElroy, Brian Milsted, Tyler
Patton, Larry Senior, Sandra Stoner, Sara Todd, and Monet Whaley.
Thirty-seven faculty invited our team to visit their classes. In all the
team visited 102 classes and talked about the importance of voting. They also
helped students fill out voter registration forms and absentee ballot
applications. In addition, the team staffed a table in the Commons, near the
Dining Hall during the dinner rush, and helped students fill out voter
registration forms and absentee ballot applications. In total 679 students
filled out absentee ballot applications and 353 students filled out voter
registration forms.
Spring 2004
For a two week period during the Spring 2004 semester (February 2 - 13) a
team of students mentored by Dr. Harry Basehart (PACE) worked on a Voter
Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive. The student team was led by
Brian Young (PACE's Thomas E. Bellavance Intern). They staffed tables at
strategic locations around the campus and assisted students with filling out
voter registration forms and absentee ballot application forms. In total 5
students filled out absentee ballot applications and 6 students filled out voter
registration forms.
In addition, Dr. Michael O'Loughlin and a student, Michelle Weiler, updated a
report that he and another student had written in Spring of 2001 (see Fall 2000
section below). This updated report examines College Student Voter Registration
Laws. Their report, finalized in June 2004

Fall 2003
For a two week period during the Fall 2003 semester (September 15 - September
26) a team of students mentored by Dr. Harry Basehart (PACE) worked on a Voter
Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive. The student team included Brian
Young (team leader), Anthony Cirillo, Chris Beal, and Michele Vinbury. They
visited classrooms and discussed the importance of voting and registering
students to vote. They staffed tables at strategic locations around the campus
and assisted students with filling out voter registration forms and absentee
ballot application forms. In total 85 students filled out voter registration
forms.
Fall 2002
During the Fall 2002 semester a team of students mentored by Dr. Harry
Basehart (PACE) and Barry King (Student Affairs and Institute for Service
Learning) worked on a Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot Application Drive. The
student team included Ron Cirillo (team leader), Anthony Cirillo, Melissa
Cirillo, Elizabeth Hays, Haley Hurson, Rachael Laurie, Alice Wilkerson and Brian
Young. In total 418 students filled out absentee ballot applications and
202 students filled out voter registration forms.
Fall 2001
During the Fall 2001 semester a team of students mentored by Dr. Harry
Basehart (PACE), Barry King (Student Affairs) and John Shortt (Institute for
Service Learning) worked on a Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot Application
Drive. The student team included Jamie Bartlett, Jamie Birkett, Randy Bones,
Jeffrey Michael, Sara Paterni and Elizabeth Wood. In total 80 students
filled out voter registration forms.
Fall 2000
During the Fall 2000 semester, a team of students mentored by Dr. Harry
Basehart (PACE), Dr. Francis Kane (PACE), Barry King (Student Affairs) and John
Shortt (Institute for Service Learning) worked on a Voter Registration/Absentee
Ballot Application Drive. The student team included Jenn Abatello, Brad Bronson,
Kelly Kolwicz, Nicole Oswald, Cinthya Pena, Mike Torreyson, Ron VanBellen and
Amy Wagner. In total 667 students filled out absentee ballot applications and
294 students filled out voter registration forms.
During the Fall 2000 and the Spring 2001 semesters Dr. Michael O'Loughlin and
a student, Michael Haslup, along with project team members (Beth Fox and Erin
Fitzsimmons) worked on a research project that examined College Student Voter
