These courses examine a governmental or non-profit policy issue relevant to a local, county, or regional need. The course gives students an opportunity to do research (in the broadest sense of the word) in the community on a practical problem that has policy ramifications.

Spring 2013 Courses

IDIS 280-002, "Political Engagement II" will be taught by
Dr. Adam Hoffman. The class will be held on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:20 p.m. in TE 380.

IDIS 280-005, "Researching Community Needs" will be taught by Dr. Michele M. Schlehofer. It will be held on Monday, from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. HH 114.

"Citizen Workshop II: Capstone Seminar" was taught by Dr. Francis Kane (Philosophy), Dr. Creston Long (History) and Mrs. Mary Kane (Nursing). This class was mandatory for 2005 - 2007 Presidential Citizen Scholars who completed the program in
May 2007.

"Influencing State Policy Project: Teaching Social Work Students to Analyze Policy and to Advocate for Policy Change" was taught by Dr. James Forte (Social Work).

"Development for Whom? Land Use Conflict on the Delmarva Peninsula" was taught by Dr. Margaret Foraker (Geography and Geosciences). The class examined the issues surrounding development on the Delmarva Peninsula.

"Citizen Education in the Information Age" was taught by Dr. Creston Long (History). The class looked at how voters gather and process political information.

"Issues at the End of Life: Ethics and Public Awareness" was taught by Mary Kane (Nursing) and Dr. Francis Kane (Co-Director of PACE and Philosophy Professor). The class looked at ethical issues that cluster around end of life decisions.

Fall 2004 Courses

"The Rhetoric of Presidential Debates" was held during the Fall 2004 semester. This was taught by Dr. Elizabeth Curtin and Dr. Thomas Moriarty (English).

"College Student Voting" was also held during the Fall 2004 semester. This was taught by Dr. Harry Basehart (Co-Director of PACE and Political Science Professor).
