'Guitar in the Gallery' Features Danielle Cumming Tuesday, March 8

SALISBURY, MD---It’s Guitar in the Gallery … in the theatre!

Salisbury University’s Guitar in the Gallery program moves to the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall for one performance, featuring Dr. Danielle Cumming of the Department of Music 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. Audience members are welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch for the 35-minute recital.

Cumming’s performance includes three pieces: “Push to Hush” by Dr. Jerry Tabor, also of the Department of Music; “Homage to Jimi Hendrix” by Carlo Domeniconi and “Invocacion y danza” (“Invocation and Dance”) by Joaquin Rodrigo.

Cumming, head of guitar studies at SU, has performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in the United States, Canada and Europe. She holds a Doctorate of Music in guitar performance from McGill University, where her research on cross-culturalism in classical guitar composition and rock music culminated in her doctoral paper “Led Zeppelin and Carlo Domeniconi: Truth Without Authenticity?”

As a performer, Cumming focuses on 20th and 21st century repertoire and has premiered and recorded many new works, both as soloist and with the toneART ensemble. In Canada she has performed on the nationally broadcast television morning show Canada A.M. and on national CBC radio.

Admission to her SU performance is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6385 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
