SU Recognizes National Eating Disorder Awareness Week Feb. 21-25

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University commemorates National Eating Disorder Awareness Week Monday-Friday, February 21-25.

Eating disorder survivor Colleen Coffey keynotes a series of events Tuesday, February 22, at 6 p.m. with a talk that explores coping with mental health struggles, including eating disorders, while living in a fast-paced college atmosphere. Held in Holloway Hall Auditorium, her lecture is sponsored by Student Activities and the Student Government Association’s Appropriations Board.  Other events include:

Mirrorless Monday:  Bathroom mirrors across campus will be partially covered as a reminder about finding beauty on the inside and maintaining a positive body image.

Think About It Tuesday:  From 11 a.m.–2 p.m., a Mind and Body Fair in Fireside Lounge features door prizes and educational activities related to living healthy and to caring for both minds and bodies.

Worry-Free Wednesday:  Eating disorder screenings, information and door prizes are offered from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Commons and 2:30-4:30 p.m. in University Fitness Center.

Untailored Thursday:  The campus community is encouraged to wear jeans and denim to support a “Be Comfortable in Your Genes” drive.  Jeans that no longer fit may be donated at collection locations across campus.

Flock Together Friday:  Dr. Dane Foust, associate vice president of student affairs, speaks about eating disorders and healthy living at noon on the front steps of Holloway Hall.  Afterwards, join Sammy the Sea Gull for a walk around campus to raise awareness.
