Fire Department Trains at Allenwood November 21-22
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury Fire Department will conduct training at the Allenwood Shopping Center on South Salisbury Boulevard 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, November 21-22. Owned by Salisbury University, the Allenwood building is slated to be demolished in coming weeks so construction may begin on a new 600-bed residence hall and retail complex.

SU Musical Theatre Presents 'Working' December 3-5
From housewife to receptionist to waitress to iron worker, Salisbury University’s annual Musical Dinner Theatre Workshop features Studs Terkel’s Broadway sensation Working Thursday-Sunday, December 3-5. Adapted by Nina Faso and Stephen Schwartz, tunemeister of the Disney animated features Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Working debates the theme “we are what we do” with a stylistically mixed collection of solo and ensemble musical numbers from country to funk and rock ’n’ roll.

Award-Winning Renaissance Madrigal Dinner Returns to SU December 11-12
Lord Merrick of Salisbury invites the community to join him during Salisbury University’s award-winning Renaissance Madrigal Dinner 6:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, December 11-12, in the Bistro of the Commons. The inaugural event in 2008 earned the National Association of College and University Food Service’s prestigious Horton Award for Catering. Tickets are now on sale at the Information Desk of the Guerrieri University Center.

TETC Earns USGBC LEED Silver Certification
Salisbury University has earned its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC), opened in 2008. The USGBC is the nation's leading organization supporting environmentally responsible building. The TETC earned silver certification, one of the top three levels available, following the council’s inspection and analysis.

41st SU Senior Art Show Scheduled November 16-December 18
Salisbury University presents its 41st Senior Art Show November 16-December 4 and December 10-18 in the University Gallery at Fulton Hall. The exhibit features the work of B.F.A. and other art students enrolled in a senior seminar course, displaying four years of study in all disciplines including painting, drawing, digital graphics, printmaking, photography, ceramics, glass blowing and sculpture.

Tickets on Sale For Diane Rehm Public Radio Delmarva February 6 Fundraiser
The host of one of the most popular shows on National Public Radio (NPR) comes to Salisbury University on Saturday, February 6, as Public Radio Delmarva presents “An Evening with Diane Rehm” as part of its largest fundraising event to date. Rehm speaks at 6:30 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium. A 5:30 p.m. private meet-and-greet session precedes her talk in the Social Room of Holloway Hall. Tickets are on sale starting Monday, November 16, at the Public Radio Delmarva office in Caruthers Hall.

Salisbury University adds a little twinkle to the holidays during its “Dance, Romance, Mistletoe and Music” festival December 6-12 in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

SU Breaks Ground on New Perdue School Building
Before a celebratory audience, Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach, members of the Perdue family and other dignitaries officially broke ground on the campus’ new home for the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business on Tuesday, September 29. At 112,800 square feet, the three-story, $56 million project will provide another bold landmark for campus visitors and travelers along Route 13. With state-of-the-art study spaces, resources and services for the next generation of business leaders, the building, its location and facilities will also strengthen the school’s business and community outreach efforts. It is scheduled to open in fall 2011.

SU Theatre Presents 'A Christmas Carol' November 20-December 6
For some, however, there’s nothing like seeing it live. Salisbury University’s Bobbi Biron Theatre Program presents A Christmas Carol, directed by Dr. Victoria Hutchinson and adapted by Dr. T. Paul Pfeiffer, Friday-Sunday, November 20-22, and Thursday-Sunday, December 3-6, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall. Curtain is 8 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. only Sunday.

SU Earns 2009 Maryland Senior Olympics Zeigler Service Award
Salisbury University has brought home the gold. The host of the Eastern Shore Senior Games since 2000, SU has earned the Maryland Senior Olympics’ 2009 Robert G. Zeigler Service Award. Named for the organization’s founder, the award recognizes those who have provided outstanding assistance to the Senior Olympics, which were held at Towson University from 1980-2005. SU hosted the statewide games in 2007 while the event transitioned from Towson to its current home in Montgomery County.

SU Wins Second Consecutive Goodman Accounting Challenge
When it comes to accounting, Salisbury University students are No. 1 in the Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Washington, D.C., region for the second straight year. SU’s team recently took first place in the annual Goodman Accounting Challenge, giving Salisbury back-to-back wins in the competition.

Dr. Diane Allen Becomes New SU Provost
Dr. Diane D. Allen has been appointed provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at Salisbury University. “Following a nationwide search and comprehensive interview process, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Allen has emerged as the successful candidate,” said SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach.

TETC Wins National Education Design Award
Salisbury University’s Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC) has been named one of the 10 best-designed new higher education buildings in the United States by College Planning & Management magazine. As part of its 2009 Education Design Showcase, the magazine chose one winner, nine honorable mentions and 13 projects of distinction for “Outstanding Design in Architecture in Education” in the higher education division. Designed by Ayers Saint Gross Architects + Planners of Baltimore, the TETC received an honorable mention.
